Back in the saddle

Welp, I'm back from Where 2.0, caught up at work, and back into development on busmonster. Now that Google has released it's official Google Maps API, I'm working on remaking the bus monster (a) to be fully compliant with their TOS, (b) to make the bus monster more robust, and (c) to add new features!

As it is, Satellite maps are not currently working due to Google Maps phasing out old images and such (that I currently rely on).

Also, I might be working on a version of busmonster for another city. We'll see how that pans out, maybe. I'll let you know which hypothetical city this is when it possibly comes closer to completion. perhaps.

Along with the more stability offered by the upcoming v2 of busmonster, it will have added features that will beat the pants off of what's here now. Stay tuned...

=)

Nice App! I just found out about it on metafilter. Which is timely for me as I just moved to Phinney Ridge from Minnesota a week ago. I was just thinking today how I should pick up a bus schedule and now I don't have to :). Thanks for putting this app together, it's appreciated.

Oooh, another city! Can't wait to see it.

Boston? I'll help!

Just saw your busmonster site...Very good site that I will definately pass on to my family and friends that live there. If you are ever looking for a smaller regional area to try out, pls contact me and Macon, Ga might work out...small area..so the variables are fewer. THE MAIN POINT of this message is to check out the following trip planner site for the Bay Area....I've included the URL below. If there is a way to incorporate this into your site...your site becomes invaluable to users. As well, do you have any plans for Mobile Apps...i.e.. I'm here, need to get here...Help?

Dude,

(a) This is awesome - I'm really inspired. Not that I'm a develeoper, or have the remote skills required - but its great to see you have such passion for using technology to make our lives better and easier.
(b) If you launch something like this for the bay area, you'll be even more of a rock star (and potentially much more). For people that I know who live in the city, getting to the south or east bay is never easy - and being able to use busmonster (especially when you have the trip planner implemented) will fill a much desired need for hundreds of thousands of people - maybe more.

Keep up the great work, and thanks for your contributions to life.

A killer App!

Outstanding app, useful and a high cool factor. Thanks. But is your Metro data incomplete? I read the FAQ; it doesn't seem to apply directly. The stops near my house (81st ave ne & ne 128th st) show only one route, of the three that hit at least some of the 5 stops shown, ignoring the 2 more useful routes. BusMonster gives me the 935 but not the 260 or the 234; both are Metro, not Sound Transit.

Busmonster rocks.

One note is your link to WSDOT on the traffic page is wrong. http://www.wsdor.wa.gov/ should be http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/

Any chance of using the satellite imagery from VirtualEarth.com? They have way more detail (zoom in much closer) than the Google equivalent even though they look like the same images.

Way cool concept!

Request by intersection:

As someone not familiar with the Seattle area, I found it confusing that the stop marks are in the middle of the street, so I can't tell which direction they are headed.

It would also be nice to get each stop pre-labled with the route numbers served by that stop, so I know which stop to click on to get the details, instead of having to click on each one. Obviously, this is more of an issue in an area with concentrated stops than in an outlying area.

Still, great idea. Go for it!

Nice work, busmonster is the nazz. The website was advertised on last week's Stranger news weekly.. front cover.

Anyway to indicate which routes change numbers and continue on? For example, the #5 runs from Northgate to downtown, but once downtown, the same bus changes to the #54 and continues to West Seattle and White Center.

Personally, I think changing route numbers was an error on Seattle Metro's part. But perhaps Busmonster can help us out?

Thanks for your work!

Nice, a friend of mine from Google just pointed it out to me.

This is one of the best uses of google maps that I have seen. The bus routes alone make it worth while, but throw in the traffic cams on top, and the site is great.

Chris,
Nice app! I just found it out today and tried it. I really like it.
Is it possible to list major businesses along the route by option?

Thanks,

Neon

I think a great place to start would be college campuses that have a regular bus system. Probably a really good way to get revenue might be to get advertising from local textbook stores.

Just moved to Seattle and how much do I love you!

i thought your blog was cool and i think you may like this cool Website. now just Click Here

Hey man nice job on the bus site. Really cool pictures of the live traffic - that's really slick!

I live in DC and am always using the metro. I created this metro maps that allows you to calculate walking distances from metro stations. I borrowed some ideas from your bus site and also included a link to your site. My code is mostly just experimental as I was just figuring this out by the seat of my paints... Anyways, thought you might be interested...

I've blogged about it here: http://xullicious.blogspot.com/2005/10/updated-maps.html

Wonderful and informative web site. I used information from that site its great. »

As much as viagra has rescued the people from the cruel grip of erectile dysfunction it has also proved to be a curse to many because of wrong conception and wrong interpretation of its functioning. People buy viagra with the notion of having an extra erotic night without actually having the need to. Nowadays Viagra is also easily accessible and anyone can buy viagra online. In addition viagra online is more often than not cheap viagra i.e. a discounted version. People can easily get Viagra from the online pharmacies using wrong information. But in this way they will harm no one but their own selves, so it is always handy to have a clear conception of the drug one is taking.
